Top 5 Hits of Ubisoft Press Conference
The Ubisoft press conference was good. Not the greatest thing I’ve seen but still good. There were some good games that were showcased and some that weren’t good, example being Transference. I really enjoyed the Mario + Rabbins Segment, especially when Shigeru Miyamoto came out with that awesome weapon. I think their segment was one of my favorite out of E3 in general.
I don’t know how I feel about the trailer for the Transference game that’s coming out in the spring of 2018. There doesn’t really seem to be much hype for this game. After watching the trailer, I was still a little bit confused as to what it was about, that is until I looked at the description. Just like what the trailer says, Transference blends movies and video games together in order to create a unique experience through VR. So, apparently, this is a narrative game about a family that’s falling apart and it’s up to the players to not only discover the truth about the family but to find a way to repair their relationship. This kind of sounds like The Bunker game where they incorporate actual actors and cinematography as well as gameplay. This game is considered a thriller. To be honest, I wish they’d show more of the game. At least show some examples of what they are talking about. Also, I wish they’d said what the game was about in the trailer, instead of having an interview with the team behind the game.
So other than that, here is my top five list of games that were a hit at the Ubisoft press conference.
1) Skull and Bones:
This is such a beautiful trailer and gives me a Black Sails and Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag vibes. It’s dark and gritty and the music to the trailer is phenomenal. After showcasing this trailer, the crowd really seemed to enjoy it and are excited for this game. I really enjoyed learning about this game as well. Right now, you can register to play the beta of this game before it’s release. You play as a pirate captain who has to travel the Indian ocean full of dangers from both sides (other sea-faring pirates as well as the King) in order to not only become king or queen of the seas but to also collect bounty and treasure. The full game comes out sometime in the fall of 2018. This is a multiplayer game. The gameplay looks amazing and I can’t wait to play this game.
2. South Park The Fractured But Whole:
I have to say, in my opinion, this was one of the greatly obnoxious trailers I’ve seen so far at E3, well next to Beyond Good and Evil 2 trailer. There next trailer for another South Park game (South Park: Phone Destroyer) was a little bit lackluster and didn’t seem as interesting to me as this game does. Maybe it’s the fact that it may actually destroy my phone if I use it, or just run up my battery life. Either way, I won’t be checking that game out as much as this one, The Fractured But Whole. This looks really interesting and fun. You play as the New Kid in town and join Eric Cartman and the rest of the South Park characters in order to destroy your enemies. This is a parody to superheroes. The game is set to release on October 17th of this year.
3) Far Cry 5/Assassin’s Creed:
We did see some special features within the games (both Far Cry 5 and Assassin’s Creed) from E3. There will be a multiplayer mode in Far Cry 5, as well as a few new characters that can help us on missions, including a dog which I think is an awesome idea. I really liked the gameplay trailer as well as the new short trailer that showcased the main villain of the game, Joseph Seed. There wasn’t much else said about the game. The release of the game is on February 27th, 2018.
Assassin’s Creed Origins takes the players through the vast lands of Ancient Egypt. You play as the character Bayek, who is the creator of the brotherhood. If you pre-order Assassin’s Creed: Origins, players will get an added bonus mission in which the main protagonist discovers the dark secrets of the pyramids as well as be able to explore within them. This mission description does remind me of the earlier games of Tomb Raider, most specifically Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation. Just the mission idea itself, not the game.
4) Just Dance 2018:
I love this franchise. In a way, I was expecting them to bring out another Just Dance game, since they have one every year and this year isn’t an exception. I really liked the new and popular music they have as well as the dance moves and costumes. This is one of my favorite games to play. Just Dance will be out on October 24th.
5) Mario + Rabbins Kingdom Battle:
This looks like a pretty awesome game and a fun one for the whole family. What more can I say about it? Two iconic characters in gaming history teaming up for a fantastic game. This will come out on August 29th. Also check out Rich’s article on the game as well.
Overall, Ubisoft did a really good job with their conference. The crowd in this conference was different and actually seemed to be excited for what Ubisoft brought out. Bebe Rexha came out to perform for the Just Dance segment, which was really cool. I like also how some of the dancers utilized the costumes from the game. It was a very fun performance to watch. I also liked the trailer for Beyond Good and Evil 2 which is a prequel to the first game. Tell us what you think of the conference and what’s your top five.
